GTA 5 Best Businesses to Buy in 2026: Ranked by Profit Per Hour

GTA 5 Best Businesses to Buy in 2026: Ranked by Profit Per Hour

CONFIRMED

Published 2026-10-01 · ⏱ 8 min

In 2026 the best business to buy first in GTA Online is the Acid Lab — around $750,000 to install, roughly $100,000+ an hour, and it runs solo. The highest payout ceiling still belongs to the Cayo Perico Heist, and the Nightclub is still the best passive earner, but only once other businesses are feeding it.

Most "best business" lists you will find still open with the Bunker or the old MC labs. That advice describes GTA Online as it was years ago. This guide ranks what actually pays in 2026, with setup costs, real effort and what to skip.

The short answer

  • Buy first: Acid Lab — $750,000 setup, ~$100K+/hour, low effort, solo-friendly.
  • Highest ceiling: Cayo Perico Heist — needs the Kosatka (~$2.2M), pays more per run than anything else in the game.
  • Best passive income: Nightclub — up to ~$1.5M of stored goods, but only after two or three other businesses are linked to it.
  • Best newer earner: Salvage Yard — three Robbery Contracts a week, plus passive tow income.
  • Skip in 2026: meth lab, weed farm, document forgery, counterfeit cash and Special Cargo crate selling.

How to read these numbers

Four things decide whether a business is worth a million of your GTA$: how much it pays per hour of *your* time, what it costs to unlock, how much babysitting it needs, and whether it works alone.

Every payout in GTA Online moves with your upgrades, the distance of the sell run, how many players are in the lobby and whatever Rockstar is boosting that week. The figures below are the player-reported estimates our sources checked for September 2026. They are useful for deciding what to buy, not for budgeting to the dollar.

The two best buys

Acid Lab — the best first purchase in 2026

The Acid Lab is unlocked by completing the six First Dose missions, which also hand you the MTL Brickade 6x6 mobile operations truck for free — it is otherwise listed at around $1,450,000 at Warstock Cache & Carry. You then pay $750,000 to install the lab equipment at The Freakshop.

After that, a self-supplied batch sells for roughly $120,000 per cycle (about 48 minutes), which works out to $100,000+ per hour with almost no overhead. You sell from your phone anywhere on the map, and you do not need a second player. That combination — low entry cost, solo-friendly, minimal effort — is why it is the standard first purchase.

Cayo Perico Heist — the highest ceiling, and not really a business

Strictly speaking this is a heist, not a business: nothing accrues while you are away, so it only pays while you are actively running it. It also requires the Kosatka submarine (~$2,200,000) before you can start.

What it does deliver is the biggest single payday in the game. Reported per-run totals vary with the primary target you draw and how much secondary loot you take — sources put a typical run in the seven-figure range. If you want one large sum rather than a steady trickle, this is where it is.

Payouts here are also the ones most exposed to rebalancing. According to GTAside's September 2026 check, the 14 July 2026 update cut Cayo Perico primary targets by up to 30%, with the Pink Diamond reported to have fallen from about $1.3M to $910K, and secondary loot down 10%. Treat those specific figures as reported rather than official.

Strong earners worth the money

Auto Shop — ~$300K to $400K per hour

Contract work rather than stock management, so the income is repeatable and does not need a crew. Setup runs around $1,670,000, which makes it a second or third purchase rather than a starter.

Salvage Yard — up to ~$1M a week

Three Robbery Contracts a week plus passive tow income, on a setup of roughly $1,430,000. The weekly cap is the limit here, not the hourly rate. Our sources disagree on the ceiling — GTAside puts it at up to ~$1M per week, GTA Intel quotes $2–3M per week for consistent players — so plan with the lower number and treat anything above it as upside.

Nightclub — the best passive earner, if you buy it late

The Nightclub is the passive flagship: a popularity safe worth around $50,000 per in-game day, plus a warehouse that stores up to roughly $1.5M of goods produced by businesses you already own. Setup is around $1,080,000.

Bought early it trickles popularity money and little else, which is the single most common mistake in GTA Online. Buy it once you have two or three businesses feeding it.

Buy for what they feed

Bunker — ~$60K per hour, ~$1,170,000 setup

Modest on its own in 2026. Its real job is supplying the Nightclub warehouse with stock while you do something else. Own it for the stack, not for the hourly rate.

Agency — ~$50K per hour, plus the Dr. Dre contract

Setup is around $2,040,000, and the security contracts are steady rather than generous, with a safe that caps at $20K per in-game day. The reason to own it is the Dr. Dre finale: GTAside reports it now pays $1,099,800 on the leader's first clear of each week and $900,000 on repeats, against a flat $1,000,000 before the 14 July 2026 update.

What to skip in 2026

  • Meth lab and weed farm — reported below $30K per hour, on setups of $750,000 to $1,200,000. Worth owning only to feed the Nightclub or tick off daily challenges.
  • Document forgery and counterfeit cash — not competitive. The payout has not moved while everything around it has.
  • Special Cargo crates — a headline earner in 2016, with high-effort sell missions and an hourly rate that no longer competes.
  • Cocaine lockup — around $30K per hour on a ~$975,000 setup. The best of the MC businesses, which is a low bar.

The business stack that actually works

One active earner, one passive earner, and something feeding the passive one:

  1. Acid Lab — your hourly income, buy this first.
  2. Kosatka → Cayo Perico — when you want a large sum instead of a steady one.
  3. Auto Shop — repeatable contract income that never needs a crew.
  4. Nightclub + Bunker — the bank. The Bunker fills, the Nightclub stores it.
  5. Salvage Yard — a weekly ritual that caps out on its own schedule.

Everything below that tier is optional in 2026.

What changed in 2026

The Kortz Center Heist went live on 14 July 2026 — the most recent major GTA Online update as of September 2026, announced by Rockstar with the usual "Now Available" video. The reported payout rebalance that came with the same update is what pushed several older businesses further down the list.

GTA Online itself is not being wound down. In September 2026 Take-Two confirmed that GTA Online support will continue after GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 — you can read what that means for the next multiplayer in our GTA VI Online release window report.

FAQ

What is the best business to buy first in GTA Online in 2026?

The Acid Lab. It costs $750,000 to install after the six First Dose missions, returns roughly $100,000+ per hour, sells from your phone anywhere on the map, and does not need another player.

Which GTA Online business makes the most money per hour?

For passive ownership, the Nightclub (once fed by other businesses). For raw earning per hour of active play, the Cayo Perico Heist still has the highest ceiling, and the Auto Shop is the strongest repeatable business income at roughly $300K to $400K per hour.

Do I need other businesses for the Nightclub to make money?

Yes. The Nightclub's popularity safe pays around $50,000 per in-game day on its own, but the warehouse only fills with goods produced by businesses you already own. Buy two or three first.

Which businesses should I skip in 2026?

Meth lab, weed farm, document forgery, counterfeit cash and Special Cargo crate selling. Their payouts have not kept pace with newer properties like the Acid Lab (2022) and the Salvage Yard (2023).

Is GTA Online still worth playing before GTA VI comes out?

Yes. Take-Two confirmed in September 2026 that GTA Online will continue to be supported after GTA VI launches, and the most recent major update, The Kortz Center Heist, arrived in July 2026.
