GTA 5 Tank & Fort Zancudo: How to Get Military Vehicles

Fort Zancudo is the only place in GTA 5 where you can find military hardware — including tanks, jets and the famous P-996 Lazer. It is also one of the most dangerous areas on the map, because the game treats it as a restricted zone. Here is what is verified, how to get in safely, and what you can actually obtain.

What is Fort Zancudo?

Fort Zancudo is a military base in the western part of Blaine County, north of Los Santos. In our GTA V interactive map, it is listed as a restricted military base: entering triggers a high wanted level, and Hangar 1 contains a P-996 Lazer fighter jet.

• Location: western Blaine County, between the Alamo Sea and the coast
• Status: restricted zone — high wanted level on entry
• Known vehicles: military aircraft and ground vehicles, including the P-996 Lazer in Hangar 1

How to get a tank (Rhino) — verified method

The Rhino tank spawns inside Fort Zancudo. The verified, community-documented approach is:

1. Approach the base from the north or west where ground access is less guarded.
2. Enter carefully — the wanted level rises as soon as you cross the perimeter.
3. Locate a Rhino and enter it immediately; the tank's armor lets you fight off the military response.
4. Drive out through the western gate and lose the wanted level off-road.

An alternative that avoids the ground fight entirely: parachute in from a helicopter or aircraft (for example the spawnable Buzzard — code 1-999-289-9633) and land directly next to a vehicle.

What about a tank cheat code?

Our verified GTA 5 cheats database currently contains 36 sourced cheat codes — invincibility, weapons, vehicles, wanted level and more — but no tank spawn code. The Buzzard helicopter, for example, is confirmed: 1-999-289-9633. If a legitimate tank code is verified in the future, we will add it here. We do not publish unverified codes.

Other military vehicles at Fort Zancudo

Besides the Rhino tank, the base is known to spawn military aircraft and vehicles. The most documented is the P-996 Lazer (Hangar 1). Because military vehicle spawns change with patches and are community-documented rather than officially published by Rockstar, treat specific spawn tables as game knowledge rather than official fact.

Why players want the tank

The Rhino is the strongest ground vehicle in GTA 5: heavy armor, explosive-resistant, and a powerful cannon. It is a staple of GTA 5 vehicles discussions — useful for missions, rampages and surviving the highest wanted levels. Getting one is a rite of passage for completionist players.
