The reliable ways to earn in story mode

1. The stock market (the biggest payout)

The assassination missions for Lester let you manipulate the stock market: buy the affected company BEFORE the mission, then sell after the crash/rise. The Franklin assassination missions are the classic method: e.g. Hotel Assassination — short the target company (BAWSAQ), buy after the drop, sell after the recovery. Combined across all missions, this can turn a few hundred thousand into hundreds of millions.

2. Story mission payouts + heists

The three big heists (The Jewel Store Job, The Paleto Score, The Big Score) pay millions. Choosing the right crew and approach (e.g. the "smart" crew cuts on The Big Score) maximizes the take. The Big Score pays up to around $40M+ on the gold approach with the right crew split.

3. Property income

Buying businesses (Downtown Cab Co., Smoke on the Water, Sonar Collections Dock, TPI, McKenzie Field Hangar) generates passive income. The Sonar Collections Dock also unlocks the nuclear waste collectibles. Property pays back over time and is required for 100%.

4. Cheap daily income

Selling cars to Los Santos Customs pays well for high-end vehicles. Random events and Strangers & Freaks missions pay small amounts — good early game.
