GTA 6 PEGI 18 Rating: Every Descriptor Explained

LEAKED

Published 2026-10-04 · ⏱ 6 min

Grand Theft Auto VI has been rated PEGI 18 in Europe, and the descriptors attached to that rating briefly revealed more about the game's violence, drugs and sexual content than Rockstar has said itself. The listing has since been pulled from PEGI's public database, but not before GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer captured what it said.

The rating appeared on pegi.info, the official database of the Pan European Game Information board, and was reported between October 2 and 4, 2026 by outlets including GamesRadar+, PC Gamer, Forbes, Polygon, Eurogamer and Digital Trends. PEGI 18 is the European counterpart of the M (Mature 17+) ESRB rating GTA VI received in North America on October 1. What made the PEGI entry notable was not the age number, since GTA V was also PEGI 18, but the granular detail the board added to justify it.

How to read this article: the PEGI 18 certificate is REPORTED (listed by PEGI, then removed). The descriptor quotes below are LEAKED, transcribed from PEGI's listing as captured by GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer before deletion. Every other claim is labelled inline.

What PEGI's GTA 6 listing said

According to the PEGI entry, Grand Theft Auto VI "features strong graphic violence, strong sexual themes, and use of illegal drugs." That three-part summary is standard PEGI wording for an adult title, and on its own it matches the tone of every modern GTA. (STATUS: LEAKED, PEGI listing since deleted.)

The descriptors that followed are where the entry got specific. Here is what each one said, and what it plausibly implies for the game.

GTA 6's violence descriptor: detailed decapitation and dismemberment

PEGI described the violence in these terms: "Violence is bloody with a high degree of realism, with certain weapons being able to cause greater damage such as detailed decapitation and dismemberment."

That phrasing points to a step up from GTA V, where violence was largely blood pools, bullet-wound decals and physics-driven ragdolls. A descriptor that singles out decapitation and dismemberment as effects tied to specific weapons suggests more granular, localised damage modelling than the series has used before. PEGI's text does not say which weapons, or whether the effect is triggered by the player or scripted. (STATUS: LEAKED. The mechanic is implied but unconfirmed by Rockstar.)

Drug use in GTA 6: frequent and prominent

On drugs, PEGI labelled the content "frequent and prominent" and said that players can "use illegal drugs directly from their inventory." It then gave a concrete example: "cocaine can be carried around by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time."

Carrying and using a substance from the inventory implies a system rather than a scripted cutscene, but what, if anything, it does to the game, a buff, a meter or a penalty, is not stated. Treat the existence of the system as LEAKED and its effects as UNKNOWN.

Sexual content: intercourse, fetishes and a strip-club minigame

PEGI's sexual-content note said the game features "scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes." It also described a strip-club minigame in which players "pay for private dances" and "the game allows the player to move their hands onto the dancers' breasts and buttocks."

That fits what Rockstar has already shown of Jason and Lucia's relationship, which the studio has said can be played as a long-term couple. You can read our breakdown of the new Jason and Lucia screenshots and the pair's full character profiles. (STATUS: LEAKED.)

Why the PEGI page was deleted, and what it means

PEGI's GTA VI entry can no longer be reached, which is why the quotes above are archived rather than live. Two readings are plausible: the page was published early by mistake and pulled, or it was pulled because it spelled out content Rockstar had not detailed. Either way, the deletion does not contradict the rating. A PEGI 18 certificate is expected for a mainline GTA and is consistent with the ESRB's M rating.

The practical takeaway is small but real: this is the first descriptor-level evidence of how far GTA VI leans into gore, drugs and sex, and it is the kind of detail Rockstar usually saves for launch. Rockstar has not commented on the listing.

GTA 6's ratings at a glance

  • ESRB (North America): M, Mature 17+. Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. (STATUS: CONFIRMED. Full breakdown in our ESRB rating explainer.)
  • PEGI (Europe): 18, with the descriptors quoted above. (STATUS: REPORTED, listing since deleted.)
  • Release: November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC: not announced. (STATUS: CONFIRMED.)

Both boards landing on their highest standard adult tier is consistent with the features Rockstar has confirmed so far.

What this means for GTA 6's tone

The PEGI entry adds no new story, map or character information, so it changes little about what you will actually do in Leonida. What it does is settle the maturity question ahead of launch: GTA VI will ship as an unambiguously adults-only game, with systems designed around that label. If you want to track the rest of what is confirmed versus still unknown, our interactive map and the GTA 6 hub keep every claim labelled.

FAQ

Is GTA 6 rated PEGI 18?

Yes (REPORTED). PEGI listed Grand Theft Auto VI as PEGI 18 on pegi.info. The entry has since been removed, but an 18 certificate is consistent with the ESRB's M (Mature 17+) rating in North America.

Was GTA 6's PEGI rating leaked or official?

It was published on PEGI's own official website, not by a third party, then deleted. Media outlets describe it as a leak because it disclosed content descriptors Rockstar had not announced.

Does the PEGI rating mean GTA 6 has decapitation and drug use?

The PEGI listing said violence can cause "detailed decapitation and dismemberment," and that drugs are "frequent and prominent," with cocaine usable from the player's inventory. These are LEAKED descriptor quotes; Rockstar has not confirmed the mechanics.

Is GTA 6 also rated M by the ESRB?

Yes (CONFIRMED). The ESRB rated GTA VI M (Mature 17+) on October 1, 2026, with descriptors including Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Sexual Content.

When does GTA 6 release?

GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The release-time schedule and preload details are in our preorder and editions guide.
