GTA 6 Confirmed Features: Everything Officially Verified (Extended Look Update)
CONFIRMEDPublished 2026-08-29 · ⏱ 9 min
Grand Theft Auto VI's Extended Look premiered on August 27, 2026 — and it is the single richest official source of confirmed features the game has ever had. Two days later, this page collects every feature Rockstar has officially verified (release, platforms, protagonists, setting), every system shown in the Extended Look's in-game footage, and the honest list of what is still unknown — each item labeled CONFIRMED, LEAKED, SPECULATION or UNKNOWN. Nothing here is invented; anything not officially verified is labeled as such.
Release date, price and platforms (CONFIRMED)
- Release date: November 19, 2026 — confirmed by Rockstar's official video description ("Coming November 19") and repeated by Take-Two's CEO (CONFIRMED, official).
- Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. No PC version has been announced (UNKNOWN).
- Price: $79.99 for the standard edition (official US pricing).
- Preload begins November 12, 2026, one week before launch (CONFIRMED, official Rockstar announcement).
- Physical editions contain download codes, not discs — digital-first release (CONFIRMED).
- Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 and posted the strongest first-week pre-order campaign on record, 89% digital per Sensor Tower (press-verified).
The release date and platform list have never changed since the December 2023 reveal trailer. See our preload guide to plan the November 12 download window.
Story and protagonists: Jason and Lucia (CONFIRMED)
GTA VI follows Jason and Lucia, a criminal couple — the series' first female protagonist in Lucia. Their full names, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, were reported by Consequence in their Extended Look coverage.
Rockstar's official story description (quoted by Variety) sets up the premise:
"Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida – forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
The Extended Look showed the couple in both cinematic and gameplay scenes — working alongside street-level drug dealers, veteran bank robbers and semi-retired drug runners, plus quieter everyday moments together. Everything officially confirmed about the pair lives on our characters page.
Setting: Vice City and the state of Leonida (CONFIRMED)
- The game is set in Vice City (a fictional Miami) and the surrounding state of Leonida (a fictional Florida) — confirmed since the first trailer and reinforced by the Extended Look's official description ("the sunniest place in America").
- The setting is modern-day, not the 1980s of the original Vice City (CONFIRMED via official materials).
- Map size compared to GTA V is not officially confirmed (UNKNOWN) — see our map size page and track verified locations on the interactive map.
Gameplay systems shown in the Extended Look (verified footage, press-documented)
These features were visible in the official in-game footage — they are what Rockstar chose to show, but where a detail goes beyond the official description, it is a press/community observation, not an official confirmation.
- Gunplay: noticeably smoother aiming, including a slow-motion aiming mechanic that appears carried over from Red Dead Redemption 2 (press observation).
- Hand-to-hand combat: a dodge mechanic is shown, and a late sequence sees Lucia overpowered in a fight, forced through quick-time events before escaping by stabbing her attacker with a stiletto heel (Consequence).
- Mission structure: at least one job is offered as single-character only — a hint that missions will play on Jason and Lucia's dynamic (Consequence).
- Consequences system: an "angel" icon appears after Jason pets a dog rather than scolds it; Dazed reported player actions will have "deeper" repercussions on Jason and Lucia's relationship than Red Dead Redemption's honor system (press-reported).
- Traffic role-play: cars with working turn signals and denser road behavior — highlighted by Car and Driver (press observation).
- Easter eggs: an RDR2 reference was spotted in the footage (IGN, press finding).
Activities and side content
The Extended Look shows a broad activity list outside missions: bench press, basketball, scuba diving, swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, racing cars and skydiving (Consequence). Store robberies are also shown — the couple robs a convenience store in the footage. Side content is clearly a major pillar, consistent with the game's scope.
Technical facts: PS5 capture, 4K download, the 30FPS question
- "Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5" — Rockstar's official description (CONFIRMED, official). Tech press confirmed the base PS5, not the PS5 Pro.
- "Grand Theft Auto VI plays best on PlayStation 5" — Rockstar's own positioning of the console versions (official).
- A high-bitrate 4K download (~14.2 GB) of the Extended Look was quietly released; reported by TweakTown, OC3D and Notebookcheck (press-verified, not officially announced).
- Frame rate targets are UNKNOWN. Digital Foundry's analysis of the footage suggests 30FPS is the console target, but Rockstar has not announced performance modes — treat that as analysis, not confirmation. Full breakdown: Extended Look day-after.
What is still UNKNOWN
- PC version and release window — not announced (UNKNOWN).
- GTA VI Online — no new online mode announced at launch; single-player is confirmed (UNKNOWN).
- Download size — Rockstar has not published it; we will source it around preload, November 12 (download size page).
- Map size vs GTA V — not officially confirmed (UNKNOWN).
- Frame rate / performance modes — not announced (UNKNOWN; Digital Foundry's 30FPS read is analysis).
- Hair and beard growth — a community-reported transcript claims Rockstar told a creator this system is not in the game; the transcript is not independently verified by us, so we treat it as a report, not a confirmation (SPECULATION).
How we label facts
Every claim on GameCity Map carries a confidence label: CONFIRMED (officially announced by Rockstar/Take-Two or verified from reliable sources), LEAKED (reported leak, not official), SPECULATION (community inference or unverified report), UNKNOWN (no reliable information). We update pages the moment official information lands — the GTA VI hub and news feed are the fastest way to follow.
Update — September 11, 2026: an online component enters the public record
Rockstar's filings in the final IWGB tribunal hearing reference a confidential "online 32 player format" — the clearest word yet from the studio on GTA 6's multiplayer, though not an official announcement. Full breakdown: GTA 6 Online: Rockstar's Own Court Filings Mention a Confidential "32-Player Format". Multiplayer remains UNKNOWN on our confirmed-features tracker.
Update — September 15, 2026: the soundtrack rollout starts
A coordinated wave of artists posted GTA VI artwork on September 15, 2026 — Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, Future, PinkPantheress and Keith Richards among them — which the press read as the game's radio line-up being revealed. Nothing is official yet: Rockstar has published no station list or tracklist. What *is* confirmed in official footage is narrower — the Netflix Extended Look carries licensed tracks from Lil Wayne, Def Leppard, Depeche Mode and Phil Collins. Full breakdown, with labels: GTA 6 soundtrack and radio stations.
Update — September 17, 2026: a 2027 window for GTA 6 multiplayer, from Twitch's CEO
At Tokyo Game Show, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg that Twitch expects "an even bigger" bump "next year when they launch multiplayer", and Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick confirmed the same day that GTA Online will keep being supported after GTA 6. No multiplayer mode has been announced by Rockstar. Treat the 2027 window as SPECULATION (a third-party claim) and the continuing GTA Online support as CONFIRMED. Full analysis.
Update - October 1, 2026: GTA 6's official ESRB rating
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially rated M for Mature by the ESRB, with descriptors for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, plus an In-Game Purchases notice. The descriptor list is identical to GTA V's. Full breakdown: GTA 6 Officially Rated M for Mature: Every ESRB Descriptor Explained.
Update — September 29, 2026: Game Informer issue 382 is out
Game Informer's 14-page GTA VI cover story is live, and Rockstar has released 12 new screenshots with it. Confirmed in Rockstar's own words: hurricanes and tropical storms, a re-engineered localized weather system (rainbows, persistent puddles, simulated wind), a map about twice the size of GTA V's (Aaron Garbut), more than 170 animal species with RDR2-style tracking, and a long list of side activities. Release date unchanged: November 19, 2026. Full breakdown: GTA 6 Game Informer Issue 382.
